Video: Universal Orlando’s 2012 Year to Be Here Announcement

Universal released this for everyone to see why 2012 is the “Year to Be Here” err.. there? Regardless, it’s a nice look at some of their coming attractions and offerings. We don’t typically delve into Universal’s stuff, as it’s not within the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow boundaries, but it’s near enough by and worth taking note of. If anything, it’s good to know what Disney is up against to decipher their decision making process.

I, for one, am not that entirely impressed. As someone else put it, it looks like they just copied Block Party Bash and World of Color. The parade makes no sense. Four floats? That’s it! And the themes of the floats make no sense either – Despicable Me does, but the others don’t. HOP?! There’s no ride there for that and no sequel in the works as far as I have heard; it wasn’t even that big of a hit. And the Nickelodeon stuff – that stuff is all gone, officially now thanks to Despicable Me. The only basis they state for the Spongebob Squarepants float is that no “emersive (sp?)” shop they want to build. A shop? A parade float based on a shop?! And as far as I know there is nothing Nick Jr related at Universal.
